Good-Bye, Summer!

Vacation is officially over and the kids are back in school. Where did the summer go?
We had a great vacation in Detroit. The Kansas concert was a blast–except when well-meaning people kept moving Henry closer and closer to the stage while my mom-stincts went bonkers from being separated from him in a crowd.
I think we had forgotten how much fun the Henry Ford Museum could be. It wasn’t air conditioned the last time we visited (okay, it’s been a while since we lived there), but now it’s possible to enjoy it in the warmer months.
Great Middle-Eastern food at Al-Ameer and Shatila in Dearborn, John King Books, Westborn Market, Royal Oak Brewery, Astoria Bakery’s baklava, Ferndale, Troy, Time Travelers and Guildcrafters in Berkley, our little brick house, Pete’s Basement, great friends and memories of Kira and Mark when they were small–always add up to a great vacation. We threw in a little Cabela’s and Splash Universe for fun this time.
Our stay at Hotel Patel was as wonderful as ever. There’s nothing like the sound of spices being ground for fresh chai as a wake-up call. If Auntie keeps adding kids to her collection she’s going to need a bigger couch!
