The Sun Always Shines on a Party

Recently, we’ve all been suffering from a strong case of working-too-hard.  Symptoms include general irritability, headaches, hangnails, sore feet, and lack of sleep.  So given the opportunity to celebrate something that normally doesn’t get too much attention in the “let’s have a party” department, we threw a Summer Solstice Shindig!

It’s hard to believe that the kids have been out of school for over a month already.  Kira has been working hard on some correspondence classes and, after the party, we shipped her off to camp.  Okay, so we drove five minutes to the Purdue campus, dumped her in a dorm for CGT Summer Camp, and came home.

But back to the party . . . there was plenty of good food, including John’s newly-famous giant cookie ice cream sandwich which, while being served, sent the smaller children into a frenzied run around the yard yelling, “Giant Cookie!  Giant Cookie!  Giant Cookie!” at the top of their lungs.

Eli and Jack were content with the giant cookie, while Abbie discovered that teeny cheesecakes were also quite good.  Not running around, yelling good, but never-the-less yumlicious!

Andrea brought her stilts.  Meredith was also celebrating her birthday, so we had an extra excuse to have fun.

Cornhole was a popular party game.  Here are the domestics, Mark & John:

Versus the imports, Jorge and Steven Jorge:

Jorge tells us that he played a similar game in Colombia when he was a kid–only the goal was to throw the object at some sort of incendiary device, with the hope of hitting it with the thrown object to make it explode.  And we thought Jarts was dangerous!

We’re all refreshed and ready to take on the summer as the days slowly get shorter.  And I think we have enough food left over to feed ourselves until school starts up again!

Neat pictures. Lillie and I really enjoyed ourselves. Met some new and interesting people, too!

How did you manage to keep mosquitos and other nasties away, Anastasia?
